When anxiety moves from your head into your tissues, it usually manifests as a “tightening of the coils.” Your body is trying to make itself a smaller, harder target. To reverse this, we have to move from contraction to expansion.
This 5-minute routine is designed to “de-clutch” the nervous system by targeting the specific points where the chains bunch up during a stress response.
Minute 1: The Jaw and “Vagus” Softening
Anxiety often starts with a clenched jaw, which “tethers” the Deep Front Line and the Arm Lines all the way down to your hips.
- The Move: Open your mouth wide like a silent “O.” Use your fingertips to gently massage the space just below your earlobes and along the jawline.
- The Reset: While massaging, let your tongue rest on the floor of your mouth.
- The Why: This releases the “cranial” end of the DFL. When the jaw softens, it sends a direct signal to the brain that you are no longer in “fight” mode.
Minutes 2-3: The “Box” Breath & Psoas Slack
Now we address the “pit” in the stomach and the “bracing” in the hips.
- The Move: Sit on the floor with your knees wide and the soles of your feet together (Butterfly position).1 This “slacks” the Deep Front Line at the hip.
- The Reset: Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. Focus entirely on the air hitting the back of your throat.2
- The Why: The “hold” after the exhale is the “reset button.” It forces the diaphragm to stay still for a moment, breaking the loop of shallow, anxious breathing.
Minute 4: The “Open Book” (Reversing the Shield)
This addresses the Superficial Front Line (SFL)—the “shield” that makes you hunch your shoulders.
- The Move: Lay on your side with knees tucked toward your chest. Reach both arms out in front of you. Take your top arm and “open” it like a book, reaching it toward the floor behind you.
- The Reset: Keep your knees glued together on the floor. Look toward your reaching hand.
- The Why: This stretches the Spiral Line and “unzips” the chest. It forces the heart and throat to be “un-guarded,” which physiologically counters the feeling of fear.
Minute 5: The “Horizon View” & Heel Drop
Anxiety narrows our focus (tunnel vision).3 This final minute expands your world.
- The Move: Stand up and find a window or a long hallway. Stand with your feet flat and soft knees.
- The Reset: Shift your weight into your heels. Slowly look left and right, not just with your eyes, but with your whole head, acknowledging the space around you.
- The Why: Shifting weight into the heels slacks the Superficial Back Line (SBL), while the “horizon scan” turns off the sub-occipital “threat scanning” at the base of your skull.
Summary: The “De-Clutched” State

Does that routine feel like a “sigh of relief” for your body? It’s a powerful tool to have in your pocket.
